Steps to Success in
Brookline, (STS) is a comprehensive educational
achievement program providing academic and social
development. The program seeks to break through the attitudes
and substantive barriers that mark poor children for failure,
seeking to overcome the confining conditions and
characteristic stereotypes of poverty. Recognizing that
students' parents and guardians, because of language and other
barriers, often are unable to assist in their children's
schooling, STS offers a number of services to help them take a
more active role in their children's education.
Neighborhood School (NS), is a
small, independent school serving 60 students
in grades k - 6 from Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Dorchester,
Roslindale, and surrounding neighborhoods; NS has a
mission to provide a diverse group of children with
personalized, process learning in a strong, purposefully small
community. NS works directly and profoundly with the
children in the school, as well as children and adults
in the neighborhoods to foster greater understanding and
mutual respect between people of diverse backgrounds through
educational activities based on one's moral responsibility towards helping others.
