Volunteer Opportunities

Experiential Philanthropy

Your gift gives back! Financial support is only the beginning for LZF donors. We encourage you to engage with our grassroots community in ways that are meaningful to you.

Become a Bridge Builder

LZF relies heavily upon hundreds of donors, volunteers, and friends to support us in our work and help us advance our mission. Among these individuals are certain people who have gone above and beyond – whether through a single, impactful act and/or transformative gift or their long-term commitment to The Fund – whom we are proud to publicly recognize as Bridge Builders. LZF welcomes those who wish to leverage their time, talent, or treasurer in meaningful, impactful ways to partner with us.

Participate In a Site Visit

As part of the annual grantmaking cycle, LZF conducts site visits with grant applicants to learn more about the organization and to determine the applicant’s fit. Site visits typically include a small group of LZF staff members and volunteers who meet with representatives of the grant applicant at a location of the applicant’s choosing. To learn more, email office@thelennyzakimfund.org.

Share Your Expertise

The Fund invites individuals to share their professional skills or expert knowledge in areas such as finance, accounting, HR, employment law, etc. with our grantee partners either as part of an LZF hosted seminar or in a one-on-one meeting with an LZF grantee partner organization.

Attend an Event

LZF hosts two Bridge Builder convenings each year, which bring together members of our community to learn from one another. In early September, LZF hosts Light the Night, our signature annual fundraising event open to the general public. See upcoming events.

Why Get Involved?

Ellie Starr

Former Board Member

“We watched little boys and girls twirling through an auditorium, and high school students told us how Ballet Rox helped them plan for college. Their mothers, all from different countries, described how the subsidized fee for the dance lessons enabled them to work fewer hours and spend more time with their families. The impact of this program was more than I could have imagined.”

Charlayne Murrell-Smith

Founding LZF Board Member

“I have volunteered with scores of organizations over many years, but there has been no more personally rewarding experience than my work with The Lenny Zakim Fund, providing vital resources and recognition to small grassroots organizations and helping them build the institutional capacity that strengthens them to carry on.”

Michael Eckton

Board Member

“As a site visitor, you can see the passion these people have – it is so infectious, you want to make them strong. I want to make sure that the money I give is carefully stewarded and used wisely. You can really see that there is meaningful efficiency and that gifts are being shepherded to make an impact in the community.”
